Building Capacity for State Science Education

I've spent a day and a half working with the North Carolina team and teams from 40 states along with Washington, DC on the charge to build capacity for state science education.  As such, we are looking closely at the Framework for Science and the Next Generation of Science Standards.

In North Carolina we are preparing to implement the essential standards during 2012-2013.  DPI has provided  documents to unpack the essential standardshttp://www.dpi.state.nc.us/acre/standards/support-tools/#unscience and crosswalks to assist with the transition from the 2004 standard course of study.

My question to educators in NC:

How do you feel about the possibility that we may implement the essential standards during 2012-2013 and find ourselves adopting the Next Generation of Science Standards within a year or two?

I hope you will leave some feedback in the comments below.
