Preparing for Common Core Standards & NC Essential Standards
I'm a firm believer in the concept "don't reinvent the wheel". blog post that compares/contrasts the Common Core Standards and NC Essential Standards.

One of the differences pointed out by Feller is North Carolina's implementation of the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy (RBT) in developing the Essential Standards. I found this PDF of Bloom's quicksheets that serve as a great reminder as we transition into the RBT.
The closer we get to implementation, the more resources we will be able to find.
Here are a couple of places to get started.
K-5 Science Essential Standards Wikispaces - at this time, there are support packs developed for 5th grade physical and life science units.
